Peñasco Independent Schools cancelled today November 7, 2024 due to inclement weather and icy road conditions.

Penasco Independent School District will be on a two-hour delay tomorrow, November 7, 2024 due to inclement weather.

On behalf of Penasco Elementary Staff & Students we would like to say a big "Thank you" to the "Hogs and Heifers" for their generous donation to our recent "Elementary Halloween Literacy & Math Night". With their donation we were able to serve pizza to all the attendees. Thank you for giving back to our community!!

The Peñasco Independent School District hosted the NMSBA Region II Meeting on Monday, September 16, 2024 and it was a success. We would like to to thank our culinary arts students and Chef for preparing and serving the food, our custodial and maintenance staff for their assistance in setting up and taking down the event, the students who recited the pledge in English and Spanish, the students that recited their ode poems and the Tiwa students that danced the basket dance. Also, a big thanks to the NM School Boards Association and all the Region II board members and guests who attended.

Message from Board President, Amanda Bissell - We are excited to welcome Mrs. Michelle Gonzales as our new Interim Superintendent! 🎉 With a wealth of experience in education and a passion for fostering a supportive learning environment, Mrs. Gonzales is ready to lead our district to new heights and continue the great work being done at the Peñasco Schools! Our previous superintendent of 3 years, Mrs. Sandoval, has accepted the role as superintendent at another district. We are immensely grateful for her leadership and the numerous contributions she made to our district. Mrs. Sandoval has been an inspiring force, guiding us through significant growth and success. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors. Join us in giving a warm send off to Mrs. Sandoval and a warm welcome to Mrs. Gonzales as she begin this new chapter with us. 2024-2025 SY - Student Calendar

This year, four classes at the middle and high schools, plus the middle school afterschool and summer programs, participated in Film Prize Jr NM, writing and creating six films. Nearly a third of all the students in the MS/HS contributed in some way, working in school, after school, and on weekends, and this weekend, 11 of them traveled to Albuquerque for the NM Film Prize Jr festival and awards ceremony. Their films were among 167 submitted from around the state from 83 schools. The students saw their films screened at the ABQ Convention Center, met one of the lead actors from the show Dark Winds, saw actor Wes Studi receive a lifetime achievement award, talked with CNM staff and students about pursuing a film technology certificate and working on major studio productions, and ended the day feeling that their work was as good as anyone else’s in the state (and thinking about what they will film next and how they will improve their craft). Two of our films won awards: a Founders Prize for “The Fight for Water” and best middle school documentary for “Our Past, Our Future,” making PISD one of the most awarded schools at the festival. Thank you to Film Prize Jr NM for partnering with PISD on this program and to everyone who made this success possible! We will screen all of the films this Saturday, April 13, 6:30pm at the Peñasco Theater. Come out and support our students!
